HOME SAFETY

Making your home child safe is very important. Here are some things you can do to help keep your toddler safe:
  • Cover the sharp edges of furniture (e.g.coffee tables, chairs, TV units)
  • Keep all blind cords out of reach
  • Store toys within your child's reach
  • Keep furniture away from windows
  • Fit power points with power point covers
  • Place safety barriers on steps and stairs
  • Organise each room to allow a clear pathway to avoid tripping and collisions
  • Use power boards instead of double adapters
  • Unplug electrical appliances after use
  • Wipe up spills on the floor as soon as possible
  • All cleaning products should be kept in a locked cupboard
  • Hot drinks should always be out of reach of children to prevent scalds

CREATING A PLAY FRIENDLY HOME
It is also important to encourage children to play by providing them with a safe place inside to be active. Making your home 'play friendly' is easy! Try pushing your coffee table or any other easily moved furniture to the side of the room when it is not being used so there is more space for your child to play, or move breakable items like vases and ornaments that you don't want accidentally broken or damaged.
